2nd Lt Thomas J. Lillig attended Austin High School in Chicago, Illinois.He joined the Air Corps of the U.S. Army Reserve in Chicago, Illinois on 15 December 1942.
The airplane was attacked by enemy aircraft andh the right wing on fire, the plane plunged to earth out of control near Bad Grund, Germany.
Only one crew member survived and was taken prisoner, eight were killed.
2nd Lt Lillig was initially buried at the cemetery of Bad Grund.
