Sgt David H. Hoffman graduated from Chatham High School in 1940. He was employed as a meatcutter.

He volunteered for the Army of the United States in Brooklyn, New York on 11 May 1942.

The aircraft had engine and supercharger problems over the target. A ME-210 figher fired 20 mm shells into the cockpit and nose area, wounding the navigator and killing the bombardier.

Seven crew members bailed out and were taken prisoner. Three men were killed.
