1st Lt Andrew Roxburgh Jr. attended New York University. Before entering the service he was employed by the New York Stock Exchange.He enlisted at Fort Dix, New Jersey on 21 February 1942 as a private. He was commissioned in November 1942, at Fort Benning, Georgia, and was sent overseas in May 1944, joining A Company at first from the 48th Replacement Battalion on 11 July 1944.
He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal a first time for wounds received in Normandy on 16 July 1944 after which he was transferred to the 128th Evacuation Hospital. After recovering, he then rejoined his regiment on 5 December 1944, being assigned to B Company.
