More information

At 4903N 0831E A/C 659 received a direct flak burst between #1 and #2 engines and burst into flames. A/C peeled out of formation to the right and went into a tight spin, exploding about 5000 feet below formation. Although weather conditions hampered visibility, one to four chutes were reported as having been seen leaving the A/C. Harold Hainline didn't bail out. He was trapped in the tail position.

Harold D. Hainline is remembered with a memorial marker in Elm Grove Cemetery at Saint Marys, Auglaize County, Ohio.
