More information

2nd Lt. Reynolds Henry G. Reynolds graduated from University of Alabama with a law degree in January 1942.

He volunteered for the Army of the United States in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on 19 March 1942.

Lt Reynolds had already had one close call previously on 30 October 1943, when the plane he was in, had to make a forced landing.

On 16 December 1943, another B-17 he was in, was crippled, and barely made it across the English Channel for the crew members to bail out on dry land. All landed safely. Apparently Lt Reynolds landed in the English countryside and had to convince a farmer lady that he was an American by offering her some American chewing gum.

The airplane was hit by flak and attacked by a Fw190 of JG 2/9, flown by Karl Tscheliesnig. It crashed into the North Sea, off the shore of Onival, France. The entire crew of ten men was killed.
