John Ashmead graduated from Roosevelt High School.

He entered the U.S. Air Forces in October, 1942, was commissioned at Hondo Field, Texas in December, 1943 and was sent overseas in February.

A/C 42-29939 was attacked by German fighters and crashed into the Baltic Sea not far from the island of Bornholm, Denmark.
