More information
Richard Bludworth studied for two years at the Riverside Military Academy in Georgia and graduated from Memphis Technical High School in August 1944 and immediately enlisted at Fort Oglethorpe on 24 August 1944. He trained at Fort Blanding and was sent overseas the first week in January 1945.Per the 345th Infantry Regiment History: "The following morning [February 11, 1945], all Battalions were alerted to a move. The Fourth Division was to relive the units in Olzheim; the 346th Infantry Regiment, those in Neundorf, The relief was touch and go all the way. The Germans must have know what was taking place. Their observation from the nearby hills was excellent. They pulled a small counter-attack as the relief was being made. An early evening mist helped considerably and the Second Battalion closed into Auw that evening. It was during this move and counter-attacks that Pvt Bludworth was killed."
Pvt Richard E. Bludworth first buried at Temporary American Military Cemetery of Foy, Belgium.
