Pfc Howard W. Morrison was a grinder before he enlisted at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana on 13 March 1942.

He was sitting in the back of a truck when somehow a wrecked friendly tank, towed by a recovery vehicle, incidentally turned the turret, hitting the men, sitting in the back of the truck. Four other men were also killed during this incident, Wilbur T. Fields, Michael F. Matysak, Charles P. Ricotta, Sidney W. Samuels.
