More information

A/C 600 was hit by flak after bombs away at target. #3 Engine was knocked out and the A/C fell back out of formation under control. Continued on course following the formation and was last definitely seen at 1240 hours at 5255N-0946E. No chutes reported.
They left the formation on the break away from the target over the city of Berlin. At 13,000 feet, about thirty miles east of Berlin, the order to bail out was given. 6 Crew members bailed out before the ship blew up in midair. Michael J. Riley, Richard C. Berryman and Norman B. Dahlin are believed to have been in the plane when it blew up. Norman didn't bail out. He was probably killed by flak.
