S/Sgt Harry E. Johnson worked in a factory where they produced electrical machinery before he enlisted in Camden, New Jersey, on 4 August 1942.

The aircraft was attacked by fighters and broke in half. Eight men bailed out safely. Two crew members were killed, seven were taken prisoner, and one escaped.

Surviving crew members reported that he was killed by injuries to the head.
