S/Sgt John O. Squires attended Canton High School. He was employed as a mechanic at Greyhound Bus Lines.He enlisted in August 1942 and was sent overseas in Octobe, 1943.
S/Sgt Squires was a crew member on Major Miller“s ship. In the vicinity of the target, the formation was attacked by enemy fighters. After the first attack Major Miller“s ship was apparently hit because it lost altitude and dropped behind. One engine on the left wing was on fire. As the aircraft went into a steep dive three were seen to bail out. The altitude was 21,000 feet.
