S/Sgt Lyle L. Hansen attended high school for 4 years and was a driver before he volunteered for the Air Corps of the U.S. Army on 12 December 1942.
Flt/O Lawrence Levinson:
"On 23 February 1944, I was the navigator in plane no. 109 on a mission to bomb installations at Steyr, Austria. Over the target area just before bomb release time, I saw a ship marked whit a white #I, Lt Samsa’s aircraft, fall out of our element and go down out of control. My crew members observed two chutes leave the ship. The time was approximately 1210. The altitude about 21,000 feet. The coordinates, 48.10N-14.02E.”

He is remembered at the Blair Cemetery in Blair, Washington County, Nebraska.
