James Crowley was a welder.

He enlisted in Boston, Massachusetts, on 28 December 1942.

The formation was attacked by more than 100 enemy fighters. Several bombers were hit and were going down, and it was impossible to determine what happened to each aircraft individually.

The entire crew of nine men was killed. They were initially buried at the POW Cemetery of Lauchröden on 29 September 1944.
