Cpl Willard A. Mackey attended high school for one year and was employed at the local plant of Noblitt-Sparks Industries before he enlisted in Louisville, Kentucky on 14 November 1942. He was sent overseas in June 1944.He was killed by artillery shell fragments in his chest and head.
