Capt Kessler was a graduate of Georgia Tech in 1940. He worked at the Candler Warehouse for the U.S. Quartermaster Corps before joining the army in 1941.He was a veteran from the D-Day invasion and Operation Market-Garden, where he was wounded in Eindhoven. He returned to duty in time for the fight in and around Bastogne.
He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Grand Failly, France.
A memorial stone can be found at the Greenwood Cemetery in Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia.
