More information

Pvt Joel H. Doss enlisted in January 1943.

Doss was taken first to the 1st Battalion aid station and later to the dvision hospital, west of Bastogne. When Doss along with other wounded men from the 1st Battalion arrived there, they were taken prisoner when the hospital was overrun by the enemy just after midnight on 20 December 1944. A soldier mentioned a wounded soldier with a severe head wound as a medical aidman tried to calm Doss down but to no avail.

He was evacuated to a German hospital inBitburg, Germany. Surgery was performed on 22 December 1944. Two days later the hospital was bombed which resulted in several casualties under the prisoners, including Private Doss.

Doss was first buried in a cemetery in Bitburg.
