S/Sgt Otto J. Dockter worked on the family farm before he enlisted at Fort Snelling, Minnesota on 4 December 1942.

He was wounded on 25 November 1944 by a bullet in the shoulder and spent 10 weeks in a hospital. He was discharged from the hospital in January 1945. On 6 February 1945 he returned to his company.

On 10 February he was severely wounded again by bullets in the abdomen and leg. He was evacuated to the 60th Field Hospital in the vicinity of Bissen, Luxembourg, were he died on 14 February.
