Pfc Carroll A. Bumgarner was a printer for the Register and Tribune Company before he enlisted at Camp Dodge Herrold, Iowa on 12 March 1943. He was sent overseas in July 1944.He was married to Josephine Perry in Des Moines, Iowa on 18 April 1940.
He was killed by a bullet in the thorax.
Three of his brothers also served during the war.
