Fred Kohn, other records refer to the family's surname as being Kuhn, migrated to the United States in 1920, taking the Adriatic from Southampton, England to New York. He worked as a plumber before his enlistment at Fort Dix, New Jersey on 12 March 1943.

He is commemorated on a monument unveiled in Ospel, the Netherlands on 6 November 2019 in memory of the American soldiers who fell during the liberation of the town.
