S/Sgt Kenneth I. Fernquist attended Southside High School and was employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad before he enlisted in Binghamton, New York on 23 March 1943. He was sent overseas in April 1944.He was initially buried at the cemetery of Niederholzhausen, Germany on 1 August 1944.
