Sgt James H. Johnson enlisted in Hartford, Connecticut on 21 January 1943.

The aircraft was hit by flak and set on fire before the target. The pilot made a crash-landing just north of L’Huitre, six miles south of Mailly-le-Camp, France. Two men were killed, eight men survived and were takn prisoner.

He was buried at the municipal cemetery of Maisieres
