2nd Lt Charles T. East was a clerk before he enlisted in Dallas, Texas on 7 October 1941.

The airplane was attacked by German fighters.

Lt East was hit by a 20 mm shell in his right shoulder, which exploded. He was already dead when the pilot gave the order to bail out.

Nine crew members were taken prisoner. Lt East was the only casualty. He was initially buried as unknown at the cemetery of Wesermunde on 3 December 1943.
