S/Sgt Richard H. Nisbett attended high school for four years and worked in an automobile factory.
He joined the Regular Army at Fort Thomas, Newport, Kentucky on 21 September 1940. He was wounded by flak in December, 1943 and returned to duty in January, 1945. For this action, he was awarded his first Purple Heart.

The airplane was attacked by fighters during the bomb run, setting it on fire. It left formation and the most of the crew bailed out before it crashed.

Five crew members survived and were taken prisoner, five were killed.
