Pfc Earl R. Suman attended high school for one year and worked on the family farm before he enlisted in Toledo, Ohio on 1 July 1942. He had his training at Camp Forest, Tennessee before he was sent overseas in July 1944.
The six Suman brothers all served during the war in the Pacific and Europe. Earl was the only one killed.
