More information

James Dwyer was a plumber.

He joined the Air Corps of the Regular Army in Boston, Massachusetts, on 5 August 1941.

Statement of Lt Dick Brennan: “I flew Dwyer’s ship and when I parked, his Chinese crew chief hopped up on the wing to tell me that Lt Dwyer was killed minutes ago while test hopping a ship (P-38). The first dive the tail came off, and he bailed out, apparently hitting the chute on the canopy. It apparently popped open at terrific speed and blew the silk out of the chute. Landed on the runway. The plane came apart and crashed. Investigation decided he hit compressibility. Leaves one corner of the canvas castle empty.”
