1st Lt Ross P. Lezie:
"I was flying number three position in Blue flight on a dive-bombing mission to an enemy airfield. After completing the bomb run, we went looking for bogies. Red flight called and said they had jumped twenty-five plus FW-190s, so I called to my wingman, Lt Cooney, for us to go down and investigate. Going down, I looked back and saw Lt Cooney was circling overhead. That was the last I saw of him."
He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Champigneul, France.
