More information

Raymond Tremblay was raised on a farm and worked as an airplane mechanic before he joined the Air Corps of the U.S. Army Reserve in Baltimore, Maryland on 3 June 1942.

Statement of 2nd Lt William H Lemlet, who flew in the same mission: “I was flying number three position in Yellow flight on a dive-bombing mission to area of Cologne, Germany, on 4 October 1944. 1st Lt Tremblay was leading the squadron and Lt Coppess was flying his wing. 1st Lt Tremblay and Lt Coppess were last seen over the target area, before making a dive-bombing run on a bridge. Shortly after the bomb run, 1st Lt Tremblay called on the radio saying Me 109s and FW 190s were in the area and needed help. That was the last I saw or heard of him.”
According to German records, Lt Tremblay was killed by fire from a German fighter while descending with his parachute.

German records show that small parts of a corpse were buried on the spot of the crash place.
