More information
2nd Lt Nathan E. Fair Jr. worked for the Civiklian Conservation Corps before he enlisted on 19 September 1940.Flak was relatively meager until the IP was reached, then it became extremely accurate. At this time Lt Denton in a/c 42-30225 "Mister Yank" was hit by two burst at Aurish, one on the left wing and a few seconds later the right wing at which time #3 engine caught fire. The plane exploded. Over the target and back to the RP, the flak was very intense and accurate. The planes had to fly through this barrage type flak.
