Andrew Marko joined the Air Corps of the U.S. Army Reserve at Fort Devens, Massachusetts on 26 January 1944.

The airplane was shot down by enemy fighters over the target. All nine crew members were killed. Due to the large number of bombers who were attacked and shot down in a very short period of time, no details are known about what exactly happened.
