Richard Yergey enlisted in Allentown, Pennsylvania on 19 August 1943.The airplane was shot by enemy fighters. Due to the number of attacks and shot down airplanes, more information about the exact circumstances are not available. The entire crew of ten men was killed.
He was initially buried at the cemetery of Eimbeckhausen-Springe on 29 November 1944.
