More information
S/Sgt Golden B. Hill enlisted in Akron, Ohio on 6 August 1943.A/C 42-102394 was attacked by enemy fighters. A/C was shot on fire and went into a dive, losing about 8,000 to 10,000 feet altitude, then leveled off and flames enveloped the A/C. The aircraft then blew up.
Of the nine men crew, three were able to bail out in time, while another three, the tail and waist gunners, were blown clear of the ship. The remaining three men are believed to have been killed in the fighter attacks. Surviving crew member reports indicate that S/Sgt Golden B. Hill is believed to have been killed in the first fighter attack. The turret was riddled by 20 mm fire.
