More information

Sgt John C. MacQueen enlisted in Great Britain on 22 February 1943.

A/C 42-97464 was attacked by enemy fighters. The plane was seen pulling out of formation, with the left wing tip burning. The aircraft turned back and seemed under control for about 40 seconds, then went into a steep dive and blew up at 16,000 feet.

Eight crew members were able to bail out and survived. Surviving crew member reports indicate that Sgt MacQueen was killed by a 20 mm shell in the attack.
