Cpl Edward F. Stewart graduated from St. Michael's High School in 1941, where he was assistant manager for two years and manager for one year of the basketball team.

He enlisted while he was in his second year at Vermont Junior College in Rutland, Vermont on 17 March 1943 and was stationed at Camp Davis, Nort Carolina, and later was selected for the ASTP program en sent to MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts for six months. When this program was discontinued, he was transferred to a glider regiment and was stationed at Camp Forrest in Tennessee until he was sent overseas in August 1944.

He was married to Kathryn Holland on 24 April 1944.

Cpl Stewart was killed by artillery fire.
