More information

Sgt William G. Stall enlisted in Cincinnati, Ohio on 24 April 1942 and has been overseas since August 1944.

The Bronze Star Medal was awarded to Sgt Stall for heroic achievement in Germany on three occasions.

His first feat of bravery took place 23 November 1944, when he "went in with his tank to retrieve his commanding officer's tank from an immobile position on the forward slope of an infantry position."

The same day "he held an enemy antitank gun completely at bay for eight hours by following its change in positions and firing harassing fire at it although it was out of his range."

In his third act of courage he "carried an artillery observer into position to enable him to call for protective fire and kept this forward observer in good position throughout the day" of 25 November 1944.
