More information

Alejandro Gonzales was of Spanish-American origin.

He attended Santo Rosa High School and worked at C.C.C. work as a defense worker.

He enlisted in Santa Fe, New Mexico on 19 November 1942 and was overseas only three months when killed.

Memories of Edward L. Souder, a comrade:
"Alex was a rifleman in the 4th Platoon. He was often assigned to me as a guard when I was out repairing the telephone lines that were torn apart during the shelling and when the lines ran over the road. When the company went overseas, a special group was formed then known as 'Company Hdqtrs'. In the Hdqtrs were men who did some special work like drivers, wire men, cooks, armorors who repaired guns, snipers etc. Alex was a super good rifleman. Alex was a brave man. Quiet and thoughtful. The day he was killed, in the attack on Beeck, the company walked out from Apweiler, headed North and Beeck was some 2 miles ahead. The land was wet and very muddy. We even had some snow fall that morning. In that action Company F lost nearly 40% of its men. Alex was killed on the 2nd day of that attack."
