S/Sgt Jacob Schenkenberger was a graduate of Sharon Center High School and was employed at B.F. Goodrich Company.

He enlisted at Fort Hayes, Columbus, Ohio on 29 March 1943.

Eyewitnesses of other airplanes, Lt Niederriter, and Lt Fleck, stated that the aircraft was attacked by enemy aircraft after bombs away, dropped the nose gear. Then most of the landing gear came down with the plane leaving formation under control with #3 engine windmilling, #4 engine out, and some flames coming from the airplane.

S/Sgt Schenkenberger was first buried in the village cemetery of Hasserode.
