T/Sgt James A. Garvey attended DePaul University and was a salesman.He volunteered for the Air Corps of the Army of the United States in Chicago, Illinois on 15 April 1942. He had taken part in 20 misions, including the D-Day bombardments.
Eyewitnesses of other airplanes, Lt Niederriter, and Lt Fleck, stated that the aircraft was attacked by enemy aircraft after bombs away, dropped the nose gear. Then most of the landing gear came down with the plane leaving formation under control with #3 engine windmilling, #4 engine out, and some flames coming from the aiplane.
