A returning eyewitness account stated that this aircraft had come under attack by a single enemy fighter that attacked the bomber, which allegedly exploded in the air as a result of. The eyewitness stated that 6 parachutes were seen immediately thereafter. The Missing Aircrew Report does not further include any eyewitness accounta.
German forces were able to recover the bodies of the crewmembers, but were only the identify four of them, including Amos Doty. He and the other crewmembers (were initially buried in the cemetery in the village of Veltheim, Germany.
