S/Sgt Peter Santora volunteered for the Air Corps of the Army of th United States in New York City, New York on 28 October 1942.

The airplane was attacked by German fighters and blew up in mid-air. Only four crew members managed to bail out before the explosion and were taken prisoner. Six men were killed.
