Cpl John R. Young graduated from Altoona High School in 1936 and worked at the Pennsylvania Railroad company's tank shop.He enlisted in Altoona, Pennsylvania on 5 November 1942 and was sent overseas in August 1944.
He was promoted to corporal in the field.
He was taken prisoner and died in Stalag VIII-A in Görlitz.
