More information

1st Lt Dana Wallace graduatd from San Leandro High School and was employed by the San Leandro Cyclery and the Caterpillar Tractor Company.

He enlisted on 27 October 1942 at San Francisco, California.

"I was flying as co-pilot for Lt MacFarland, who was leading low left element of low left squadron on mission 28 January 1945. Just before time over target, I heard over R/T some lead call that he was on fire. I couldn't identify what lead, but a few seconds later I saw a plane drift down below us and when it was about 4,000 feet to 5,000 feet below it blew up. The explosion seemed to radiate from the vicinity of #3 engine or the bomb bay, as the left wing was the least damaged and spun around fairly intact, with flames streaming from it. The rest of the plane went into rather small pieces. I saw no parachutes come out and the plane was flying as though on Auto Pilot or manually, that is still under control".
