Pvt Gonzalo C. Cornejo enlisted at Fort MacArthur, San Pedro, California on 2 May 1944.

He joined his unit from the 92nd Replacement Battalion on 2 January 1945. On 9 January 1945 he was reported seriously wounded in action and evacuated to the 13 Field Hospital. At that moment his unit was engaged in the fighting in the vicinity of Ottré-Langlire, Belgium.
