The airplane was shot by enemy fighters. Due to the number of attacks and shot down airplanes, more information about the exact circumstances are not available. The entire crew of ten men was killed.
Lt Geppert was initially buried at the cemetery of Egestorf-Bansinghausen, Germany on 8 December 1944.
