More information

S/Sgt Louie R. Bodine attended high school for one year. He volunteered for the service in 24 September 1940 and was sent overseas in September, 1944.
One of the Bronze Medals he was awarded was for heroic achievement on 1 December 1944. The citation reads in part: "When enemy fire had pinned down his unit, S/Sgt Bodine risked his life in an effort to reach the enemy and destroy their weapon. Deliberately exposing himself to machine gun fire, he crawled to a position from which he successfully silenced the gun, thereby enabling his platoon to continue toward its objective without further loss of life. The resourcefulness and bravery of S/Sgt Bodine reflect highest credit upon himself and the military service."
