S/Sgt Elwood F. Fossett graduated from Valley Stream Central High School and was employed at Hanover Fire Insurance Company.He enlisted in New York City, New York on 12 February 1943. He was sent to Camp Wallace, Texas for basic training with the anti-aircraft artillery. In July 1943 he was ordered to Purdue University, Indiana where he studied engineering under the Army Specialized Training Program for nine months. Then he was transferred to the infantry and sent to Camp Swift, Texas to receive further training.
He was overseas since July 1944.
