Pfc John D. Ropp attended Bloomington High School in Bloomington, Illinois and the Illinois Wesleyan University. He was pitcher for the high school baseball team and for the Wesleyan university team while in school there. He went to Florida with the Wesleyan team when he was a freshman. He belonged to the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He was killed in action in Germany near Linnich, Rur River. He served in France and had been confined to a hospital for a back injury.
