More information

2nd Lt James M. Mc Vay graduated from Mount Lebanon High School and attended Allegheny College.

"We were flying an armed recce mission in Germany and had completed our bombing and strafing attacks on the enemy and were heading for our base when, just northwest of Haltern, Germany, I saw three bursts of 88mm flak at 9500. Just at that time, Lt Mc Vay called out that he was hit. I then noticed smoke coming from the right side of the engine. I went over to check for fire when Lt Mc Vay dropped off on his right wing, canopy came off, and then his ship went over on its back and then headed straight down. I did not see Lt Mc Vay bail out or the plane crash. Time that Lt Mc Vay was hit was at 0927 hours."
