More information

2nd Lt Clyde W. McFrederick enlisted in Los Angeles, California, on 14 March 1941.

Statement from Capt Stuart H. Brown:
"Lt McFrederick was returning from a dive bombing and strafing mission when his plane was hit by flak. However, he was able to return over friendly lines before developing serious trouble. Shortly thereafter, the plane began to lose altitude, and Lt McFrederick bailed out. His parachute did not open, and he hit the ground about two hundred yards from where the plane crashed. Witnesses who examined the body and the parachute believed that he never pulled the ripcord. The body was removed to the 34th Evacuation Hospital at Verdun, France, for examination."

Lt McFrederick was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery, Andilly, France.
