More information

1st Lt George O. Bergeron was an accountant before he volunteered for the Air Corps of the Army of the United States in Manchester, New Hampshire on 27 January 1942.

Statement of Maj Wilton H. Earle Jr, who flew in the same mission: "On 10 December 1944 Lt. Bergeron and I took off on a rhubarb mission from A-89 Le Culot, Belgium. After destroying various targets of opportunity, Lt. Bergeron's plane was hit by light flak from a marshalling area which we were attacking in the vicinity of Friekhofen, Germany. He called to me over the radio that he had been hit. After proceeding for about four (4) miles north, his plane smoking, the ship burst into flames. I saw him bail out, and circled the wooded area until he landed. He was apparently unhurt at the time he bailed out."

Lt Bergeron was initially buried at the cemetery of Sieg, Germany on 20 December 1944.
