Glenn W. Hoffman graduated from Highland Park High School in 1939. He worked as a stableman in a riding stable and later was employed at the Chicago Union Station, the Chicago office of the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad.He volunteered for the Air Corps of the Army of the United States on 7 April 1942 in Chicago, Illinois.
The airplane was hit by flak on return flight. One engine caught fire immediately and another stopped. Soon after seven or eight men had bailed out and after the airplane had descended out of control to a few thousand feet below the formation, it blew up in mid-air.
Three crew members were taken prisoner, eight men were killed.
He was initially buried at the cemetery of Vlissingen, the Netherlands.
Lt Hoffman was Lead Navigator of the Group and was killed on his 30th mission.
